Customer Requirements:

  • Need a control system and panel to operate a metal castings machine to make both upper and lower seat cusions for the Spyder product manufactured by Bombardier Recreational Products
  • The machine is potentially dangerous, so great care must be taken to ensure safety
  • Interface with external equipment: limit switches, valves and solenoids
  • Provide feedback to the operator through strobe lights, pilot lights and beepers
  • Only act upon activation of two-hand control with safety relay circuit
  • Timer values set through touch-screen interface
  • Intuitive and simple screens on the graphical user interface (GUI)
  • Instant translation between English & Spanish on the HMI
  • Quick connection between main control panel and external machine control devices

Solution:

  • AMPS designed a compact electrical control system with programmable GUI and integrated PLC as the backbone
  • The PLC interfaces with the customer's limit switches and valves
  • DIN-mount circuit breakers were used to make servicing simple
  • All external machine connections are made through a high-quality, industrial quick-disconnect plug
  • Programming was done to ensure easy switching via the touch-screen between English and Spanish
  • Safety relay circuit utilized along with two-hand control module to ensure safety
