BENEFITS OF USING RL LINE/LOAD REACTORS
MTE RL reactors help keep your equipment running longer by absorbing many of the power line disturbances which otherwise damage or shut down your inverters, variable speed controllers, or other sensitive equipment. They are the modern technology solution to inverter and drive application problems. MTE reactors are harmonic compensated and IGBT protected to assure optimum performance in the presence of harmonics. They are very effective at reducing harmonics produced by inverters and drives, and in most cases will help you to meet IEEE 519. Use our harmonic compensated reactors on either the input or output of an adjustable speed drive/inverter. There is no need to derate our "harmonic compensated" reactors for harmonics.
- Protect Motors from Long Lead Effects
- Reduce Output Voltage dv/dt
- Virtually Eliminate Nuisance Tripping
- Extend Semiconductor Life
- Reduce Harmonic Distortion
- Reduce Surge Currents
- Reduce Motor Temperature
- Reduce Motor Audible Noise
- Improve True Power Factor
- Helps Meet IEEE 519 or EN 61000-3-4

Impedance Ratings
3% impedance reactors are typically sufficient to absorb power line spikes and motor current surges. They will prevent nuisance tripping of drives or circuit breakers in most applications.

5% impedance reactors are best for reducing harmonic currents and frequencies. Use them when you must comply with IEEE 519, to reduce motor operating temperature, or to reduce motor noise.
NOTE: The true effective impedance of the reactor changes with actual fundamental current. |

RLW World Reactors
The MTE World reactor (RLW) is an international product that is optimized to support global IEC and NEC Drive /motor applications and provides a low cost line side alternative to the present line of MTE “RL” line/ load reactors. MTE engineering has used the latest magnetic design tools and test equipment to develope this product. RLW’s are RMS current rated impedance devices. Selection is based on the choice of inductance correlated to the application motor full load amps, voltage and frequency and the number of phases. Use the selection table to pick from the global FLA motor selection for common voltages. The RLW like RL reactors may also be sized to protect single phase drives. Please see MTE application AN0120 for details. For critical impedance selection based on unique HP or load currents consult MTE applications engineering.

Matrix Filters®
Product Overview
MTE Matrix Filters solve the problem of harmonic distortion on virtually any two or six pulse rectifier. These power supplies are commonly found in electronic equipment such as adjustable speed motor drives, welders, battery chargers, servo drives and other equipment. MTE provides solutions for both three phase and single phase harmonic applications. MTE Matrix products have evolved from the original Series A to the refined patented new MTE Series D Filter. New single phase matrix filters have been added to provide higher levels of single phase third harmonic mitigation.
Please see the colored brochures featuring these products.
Harmonics are a problem
Harmonic distortion has become an increasing concern for facility managers, users of automation equipment and specifying engineers alike. Harmonics not only waste energy, but they reduce equipment life, electrical system reliability, system efficiency and equipment productivity.

Guaranteed results
Unlike other harmonic filter technologies, the performance of MTE Matrix Harmonic Filters is guaranteed! On AC variable frequency, variable torque drive applications (fans & pumps), Matrix filters will meet the guaranteed maximum levels of THID (total harmonic current distortion) all the way from no load to full load. Additionally, Matrix filters will not cause power system resonance nor attract harmonics from other non-linear loads. No system analysis is required to select and apply Matrix Filters.
Typical Applications Include:
Mission critical facilities
AC variable frequency drives
DC adjustable speed drives
Electronic welders
Battery chargers
Fans and Pumps
Water Treatment Facilities
Induction heating equipment
Elevator drives
3-phase power supplies
Any 6-pulse rectifier |

Meets International power quality standards
such as:
IEEE-519, G5/4, AS2279,EN61000
UL Listed (UL-508)
Matrix Harmonic filters are UL listed (File E180243) for both USA and Canada.

Convert 6-pulse Drives to Multi-pulse Harmonic Performance
Matrix filters allow users to achieve attenuation of harmonics to levels below that previously attainable only by using 12-pulse or 18-pulse rectification methods. Use standard 6-pulse drives and our MD & M5 series matrix Filters in place of 18-pulse rectifiers and use our M8 Series in lieu of 12-pulse rectifiers.
3-Phase Reactor with Surge Arrestors
Product Overview
MTE RL Line /Load reactors with surge arrestors offer enhanced protection of diodes, transistors, SCRs, thyristors, etc. from dangerous voltage spikes and current surges. They can reduce overall system operating costs by reducing equipment down time and increasing system reliability and efficiency.
RL Line/Load & MOV offers a combined benefit of both reactors and MOVs including absorption spike reduction and harmonic attenuation. |
|
RL Line/Load & MOV combines the benefits of reactor and MOV (metal-oxide varistor) technology to provide enhanced surge/spike protection for variable speed drive/inverter applications.
Use this product on the input side of variable speed controllers to offer protection from power line spikes, voltage transients and even to help reduce the effects of lightning.
RL Line/Load & MOV is factory assembled and pre-wired. Simply connect three incoming and three outgoing conductors, and make connection to ground.
The reactor portion of this network absorbs current surges, while the MOV portion clamps voltage spikes to acceptable levels. They combine to offer the optimum in electronic controller circuit protection. The reactor even helps to extend MOV life by reducing the energy content of spikes prior to reaching the MOV module.
Three phase MOV modules contain high energy rated MOV's offering protection from the most common transient voltage spikes. Module life is extended due to additional protection offered by reactor.
Typical applications include:
- Adjustable Speed Drives
- SCR Controllers
- Rectifier Circuits
- Machine Tool Controls
- Industrial Controls
- Packaging Equipment
- Printing Presses
